Hello! Today, I’d like to introduce “The Sauna” in Nagano Prefecture!
For sauna enthusiasts in Japan, there’s probably no one who hasn’t heard of it. It’s no exaggeration to say that this sauna facility is the holy land of Japanese saunas, combining immense popularity and excellence. I’ve longed to visit for a long time, and I finally had the chance! Let’s dive into the review right away!
First, let’s talk about how to make a reservation! “The Sauna” operates on a reservation-only basis. Because it’s extremely popular, it’s better to book early, even on weekdays! You can make a reservation on their website. As mentioned above, you can change the language to English by clicking the top right corner, so please change it and make your reservation!
Currently, there are five types of saunas at “The Sauna”! Let me introduce each one.
⬛️Building No.1 – Yksi –
“The Sauna” started with this sauna. It is truly the original sauna. The owner built this sauna hut with imagination and passion. The imposing wood-burning stove is the very heart of the sauna. The interior lighting is dim, allowing you to feel the beauty of the flickering fire, the crackling wood, and the light pouring onto the sauna stones.

⬛️Building No.2 – Kaksi –
This is Kaksi, built as the second building. In this rare two-story sauna, you can enjoy the sensation of being comfortably enveloped in heat and the excitement of gathering and chatting with friends in the attic. Compared to Yksi, it has a more spacious area, and you can feel a sense of openness while looking outside through the large windows.
[First Session] 9:00-11:00
[Second Session] 11:40-13:40
[Third Session] 14:20-16:20
[Fourth Session] 17:00-19:00
[Fifth Session] 19:40-21:10
- Each session is 2 hours long and accommodates up to 6 people.
- Only the fifth session is 1 hour and 30 minutes long.
Weekdays: 3,500 yen per person (tax included)
Weekends: 4,500 yen per person (tax included)
⬛️Building No.3 – Kolme –
⬛️Building No.4 – Neljä –
A pair of saunas available for private use for three hours only. There is also a dedicated cold plunge pool filled with groundwater that is safe to drink. Since it is a private sauna, couples and friends can fully enjoy their time together! Although it is a private space, it is still a place where you can fully experience the charm of “The Sauna.”
[First Session] 9:30-12:30
[Second Session] 13:15-16:15
[Third Session] 17:00-20:00
- Each session is 3 hours long and accommodates up to 6 people.
Weekdays: 33,000 yen (tax included)
Weekends: 36,000 yen (tax included)
⬛️Building No.5 – Viisi –
This is also a private sauna available for three hours. “The Sauna” has utilized its extensive experience in sauna construction to create a sauna that is closer to the authentic Finnish sauna experience! The cold plunge pool is designed with the image of a natural spring, offering both a deep plunge and a shallow plunge pool.
[First Session] 8:30-11:30
[Second Session] 12:15-15:15
[Third Session] 16:00-19:00
- Each session is 3 hours long and accommodates up to 6 people.
Weekdays: 35,000 yen (tax included)
Weekends: 38,000 yen (tax included)
⬛️Earthboat
Lastly, I’d like to introduce this small hotel with a sauna. The concept is to experience the earth directly through your skin!
This small hotel, with an area of 24 square meters, is equipped with essential facilities such as a bed, shower, toilet, and mini-kitchen. Despite the small size of the room, the outdoor space serves as the living area!
As you can see, Earthboat is surrounded by nature, offering rich experiences once you step outside. There’s a reason why the building is small! With a wood stove outside, it’s also great to warm up outdoors during the colder months!
And here is the sauna attached to the building! During your stay, you can enjoy the sauna whenever you like, for as long as you like! There’s also a refreshing plunge pool outdoors! A hotel with a sauna is truly a sauna enthusiast’s dream!
By the way, wearing swimwear is mandatory in all saunas! Towels and swimwear can be rented for free. The rental fee for a sauna poncho is 500 yen!
In this blog post, we’ve compiled information about “The Sauna.” Some of you may already be eager to visit! However, I’d like to save the details of my actual visit for the next blog post! Stay tuned!
